HBO's 'The Idol:' Blackpink’s Jennie Steals The Show In Steamy Dance Scene
The suggestive scene involved straddling and grinding on male backup dancers.
HBO’s highly-anticipated series The Idol just aired its first episode. Created by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson and The Weeknd, the series revolves around aspiring pop star Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp) and her relationship with cult leader Tedros (played by The Weeknd). But it was Blackpink’s Jennie who stole the show last night with her acting debut, stunning viewers with her steamy, one-minute dance scene.

Jennie plays Dyanne, Jocelyn’s backup dancer. In the scene in question, Jocelyn stepped aside for a smoke break while Dyanne demonstrated the choreography for her new single – which involves grinding on male backup dancers, straddling and twerking.

The suggestiveness of the choreography, coupled with Jennie’s seductive expressions, caught fans off-guard. But this shouldn’t come as a surprise for those who have been following the controversy surrounding The Idol. Even before it premiered, the series received flak for its graphic sexual content, as well as a troubled production involving reshoots, rewrites and a sudden change in director.
In an exposé by Rolling Stone, one anonymous crew member claimed that Jennie barely had any airtime in the series.

“They didn’t let her talk that much. Her job was to sit there [and] look pretty, basically,” the crew member was quoted as saying.
In an HBO featurette, Jennie expressed her familiarity with dance, crediting her experience in Blackpink for the natural execution of the choreography.
“I didn’t have a lot of time to learn the choreo for the dance scenes. But thankfully I do this all the time, so it came naturally to me,” she said.
