Jennifer Lopez shared a sweet tribute to her Shades of Blue co-star and “partner in crime” Ray Liotta, who died on May 26 (Thursday) at the age of 57.

The multi-hyphenate fondly remembered working with the Goodfellas actor, whom she worked closely with on the NBC police drama, which aired from 2016-2018. The “Waiting for Tonight” singer starred as Detective Harlee Santos, and Liotta played her colleague and father figure, Lieutenant Matt Wozniak.

In addition to a fond message about working with “the original Goodfella,” Lopez also shared pics of herself and the star, as well as an emotional scene from the drama.

“Ray was my partner in crime on Shades of Blue … the first thing that comes to mind is he was so kind to my children,” she wrote. “Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside … I guess that’s what made him such a compelling actor to watch. The original Goodfella.”

“We shared some intense moments on set those three years! When I first heard he took the job on Shades of Blue, I was thrilled, and the first time we walked on set to do our first scene together there was an electric spark and a mutual respect and we both knew this was going to be good. We enjoyed doing our scenes together and I felt lucky to have him there to work with and learn from,” she continued.

“Like all artists he was complicated, sincere, honest and so very emotional. Like a raw nerve, he was so accessible and so in touch in his acting and I will always remember our time together fondly. We lost a great today … RIP RAY … it’s so sad to lose you what seems way to soon … I will remember you always. Sending so much love and strength to your daughter Karsen, your family and all your loved ones,” she concluded the post.

Liotta was lauded throughout his careers for his film roles, as well as for recent roles including Netflix’s Marriage Story, HBO Max’s No Sudden Move, and the recent Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark. He passed away in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was working on the new film Dangerous Waters.

Many collaborators and co-stars who’ve worked with Liotta throughout his career, including Kevin Costner, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Robert De Niro, and several celeb admirers have also paid tribute to the star.
