Kim Kardashian poked fun at herself, her family, and her lifestyle during her Saturday Night Live monologue last year—but it seems ex-husband Kanye West did not take her joke about him lightly.
On the latest episode of The Kardashians on Hulu, the SKIMS founder spoke to sister Khloé Kardashian about West’s reaction.
“He walked out on SNL mid-monologue. So I haven’t talked to him since. He’s upset at the fact that I used the word divorced—so he wished I said the word filed for divorce,” Kim said. “And he was upset that I also said he was ‘a rapper.’ He said, ‘I’m so much more than a rapper. I can’t believe you said rapper.'”

Kim’s original joke about West, during her SNL hosting gig on October 9, 2021, went like this, “Honestly, all the ups [and] all the downs. I married the best rapper of all time. Not only that, he’s the richest Black man in America: a talented, legit genius who gave me four incredible kids.” She added, “So when I divorced him, you have to know it came down to just one thing: his personality. I know that sounds mean, but people keep telling me that comedy comes from truth and if there’s one thing I always strive to be, it’s genuine.”
Of course, it was all fun and games (with a hint of truth?), and she told Khloé she never intended for it to be taken seriously or negatively.

“I never want to offend anyone, and I never want to hurt anyone, but also that’s what this monologue was for. It was to make a joke,” Kim said. “I made fun of myself, I made fun of my mom, I made fun of everything that is personal to me. And it’s all fun and games, and apparently, it wasn’t to him.”
Kim also brought up the fact that she stayed quiet for years while West—whom she filed for divorce from in February 2021—made public comments about certain things she did not necessarily agree with.
“I have sat there through so many speeches and things that have not been the most comfortable for me. But that was my partner, and I stood by him. I would never embarrass him and walk out,” she said. “He is so used to getting exactly what he wants—I have never seen anything like it. Good for him, but, hey, it’s not going to happen here.”

West has since also verbally attacked Kim, her family, and her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, on social media.
After her appearance on SNL, West accused her of not letting him see their children (North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm West) and of putting North on TikTok without his permission.
He wrote on Instagram this February, “SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST DIVORCE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT MY DAUGHTER BEING PUT ON TIK TOK AGAINST MY WILL?”
He also famously posted, and then deleted, a Claymation video of a character kidnapping and burying a clay version of Davidson.
West’s Instagram feed is now blank, and Kim said everything between them will be okay in the end, because they share four kids and there is still much love between them, even if their romantic relationship is over.
“The reality is, we’re always a family,” she told Variety. “We always will have a love and respect for each other. And even if there’s moments where it might not seem like that, there are so many moments that are super positive.”
