Stores might be putting out their Christmas decorations earlier than ever, but only Mariah Carey can say when the season really begins.

The superstar kicked off the holidays (and the end of Halloween, apologies to spooky season lovers) with a video shared to her social media accounts. In the clip, Carey, clad in a bright-red glittery gown and matching high-heeled pumps, sneaks into a house to smash a trio of pumpkins carved with the words, “It’s not time”—a reference to her now-classic statement about when it’s appropriate to blast her holiday hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Following the short pumpkin-smashing session, Carey switches into a sequin-embellished Santa Claus suit, frolicking in fake snow and a sea of presents with her Jack Russell terrier.

“Ready? Let’s go!” Carey captioned the clip on Twitter, adding the hashtag #MariahSZN. Fans were quick to notice that a wrapped present in the clip teased the date November 5—hinting that the star has another surprise in store for her fans this week.

Since its debut in 1994, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has gone on to become the most successful holiday song of all time. The track broke a record for having the longest rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart—it went number one in 2019, 25 years after its original release. Carey repeated the chart win in 2020, raising the question: Will 2021 mark a three-peat for the singer?

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” also puts Carey among a handful of artists to earn Hot 100 number ones in consecutive decades. She’s had chart-topping hits in the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s, a feat that’s otherwise been accomplished only by Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Usher.
