Since entering the royal spotlight, Meghan Markle has had some remarkable twinning moments with fashion icons including her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, her go-to style inspo Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and timeless favorite Audrey Hepburn. But over the weekend, the Duchess of Sussex added a new, unexpected figure to the roster: Vivian Ward of Pretty Woman.

Eagle-eyed fans pointed out that the brown gingham dress Markle wore for a polo match on Saturday was reminiscent of the cocoa polka dot frock Ward (portrayed by Julia Roberts) wears to a polo match in the 1990 film.

Obviously, the dresses aren’t identical, but the banded wide brim hats do add a nice similar touch. Markle went for a sleeveless eyelet number by Shoshana paired with a Madewell straw topper, shades, and leather lace-up sandals by Sarah Flint.

Meanwhile, Ward’s rendition was a little more old-fashioned, paired with white gloves, low pumps, and pearl earrings.

Though Pretty Woman is nearly 30 years old, Vivian’s onscreen style continues to inspire. The brown spotted print from her polo outfit has resurged as an in-demand pattern of the season, and polka dots in general are having a moment this year.

Considering Markle is a former actress, perhaps there’s a chance her sartorial tribute to Vivian Ward was intentional. But even if it was coincidental, the outfit still serves as proof that the Duchess of Sussex has mastered royal polo style.

Weeks ago, we saw the Duchess of Cambridge wearing a summery blue Zara dressfor a (somewhat) casual polo outing with Princess Charlotte and Prince George. If Vivian Ward didn’t inspire Meghan’s attire, maybe Kate did.
