File this under Things We Never Expected to See: Prince Harry in beach shorts and a backward baseball cap.

The Duke of Sussex was photographed enjoying a beach day in Santa Barbara with his Labrador retriever, Pula, last week. In the new photos, Harry is sporting much more casual attire than the world is used to seeing him wear; we’re talking a simple white crew-neck T-shirt, navy board shorts, a baseball cap, black sunglasses, and no shoes.

According to People, Harry seemed completely carefree while playing with Pula, the prince continuing to adjust to his new life in California with his wife, Duchess Meghan, and young son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

“He looked totally at ease,” a source told the outlet. “He has a great relationship with his dog, walking it off-leash. He looked just like a Montecito local just doing his thing—very relaxed walking barefoot.”

During their two-hour sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey last month, Harry and Meghan gave a glimpse into their new lives in California, discussing how they’ve been acclimating to Meghan’s home state—even sharing a new clip of Archie enjoying some beach time with his parents and their other dog, Guy.

“This year has been crazy for everybody,” said Harry during the interview. “But to have outdoor space where I can go for walks with Archie and we can go for walks as a family, and with the dogs and go on hikes or go to the beach which is so close, all of these things are … the highlight [for me].”
