Victoria Beckham has given an insight into the daily running of her company. The fashion designer talked about how she juggles her career with her family, as well as what she looks for in her staff during a Facebook Live interview with The Sunday Times.

“I feel so lucky, so blessed to do what I love,” Beckham said. “My business is my passion, it’s what I’ve always dreamed of. I truly believe if you work hard enough and you dream big enough, there are no limits to what you can achieve.”

The designer commented on the happy statistic that 79 per cent of her team are women, with 80 per cent of senior management positions also held by women.

“For me it’s not about whether someone is male or female,” she explained. “It’s about getting the best person for the job and I have a great team, lots of very strong, powerful, very intelligent women and that’s who I want to surround myself with. I want to learn and be around people who inspire me.”

Beckham also talked about how she treats the people who work for her brand, explaining that she never says anyone works for her but that they “work together” in a collaborative fashion.

“It’s about empowering your team. Yes it’s about being firm but it’s also about allowing them to be free, especially when you work in a creative industry. If you empower people and make them feel like the best version of themselves, that’s how people give you their best work.”

The designer added that she always tries to find an equal weighting between being firm and soft, both in the workplace and at home.

“It’s about getting the balance. You have to be soft because you are a woman, but then you have to be firm to command that respect.”

In terms of juggling career with home life, she said that you cannot underestimate how difficult it is for women, but that part of her success is down to the fact that she always puts her family first: “David and the children are everything to me.”
