Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have reportedly split after 10 months together, sources close to the songstress confirmed to Us Weekly. The news arrives days after Gomez and her famous ex Justin Bieber were seen hanging out again on multiple occasions.
“She and Abel [Tesfaye, The Weeknd's real name] have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” an insider told People. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.” Multiple sources apparently confirmed the breakup news to the site.
According to the insider, Selena "made an effort" to see The Weeknd's shows, but "that played a part in them getting distant." Apparently, they're still on talking terms. "It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch," the source added.
Selena had also recently reconnected with Justin Bieber, whom she broke up with in 2015. The two were spotted having breakfast and attending a church service together on Sunday. Afterwards, Tesfaye reportedly started unfollowing some of Gomez's friends and family members on Instagram, leading some fans to suspect they had broken up.
Gomez, 25, and Tesfaye, 27, were first rumored to be dating earlier this year when they were spotted kissing on a night out. The duo then started posting each other on social media and made their red carpet debut together at the Met Gala in May, where they shared some romantic PDA on the museum's front steps.
They had just made their second red carpet appearance at the BAZAAR Icons party during fashion week in early September this year. That month, it was also reported they were living together in an apartment in NYC while Gomez is working on a new film and Tesfaye is on tour.
Gomez gushed about Tesfaye in a recent interview: "I'm lucky because he's more of a best friend than anything else."
