Courteney Cox has found a new dance partner.
Who is that dance partner, you ask? None other than Ed Sheeran. The 56-year-old actress shared an incredible video on Instagram Sunday featuring her and Sheeran recreating The Routine from Friends.
“Just some routine dancing with a friend… @teddysphotos,” Cox captioned the clip, along with the hashtag, “#ReRoutine.”

The post, unsurprisingly, quickly racked up likes and comments. Kaley Cuoco was among the fans of the clip, accurately commenting, “This is EPIC.”
Cox and Sheeran really did nail The Routine—for the most part, that is. They did suffer a minor snafu in executing the final move (in which Cox leapt into Sheeran’s arms).
The iconic dance is known to Friends fans simply as “The Routine” and appeared in the tenth episode of the sixth season of the hit series (appropriately titled “The One with the Routine”). In the episode, siblings Monica (played by Cox, of course) and Ross (played by David Schwimmer) bring back a dance routine choreographed during their childhoods on the set of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
If you need a refresher (or, if you’re like most Friends fans and just don’t believe there is such a thing as too many viewings of, well, any scene from the show), check out Cox and Schwimmer’s iconic and, yes, epic performance of The Routine below:
Sadly, Friends fans haven’t been able to see Cox and Schwimmer execute a modern rendition of The Routine—but it was on the Friends reunion special director’s wishlist, it seems.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Winston, who helmed the long-awaited HBO Max special, revealed that he did bring up the possibility of doing The Routine for the reunion with Cox and Schwimmer, but was, tragically, turned down.
“I did say, ‘Would you ever consider doing The Routine?’ And both of them were like, ‘Oh, please don’t make us do that,'” he said. “There were certain things I really cared for, like the table read or the quiz. I also couldn’t work out where it would have worked. I’m not sure it would have landed 20 years later. But it was definitely on my list of ideas that I pitched.”
