Priyanka Chopra Jonas joins a talented cast.

Rising star Adarsh Gourav stars as driver Balram Halwai. A graduate of The Drama School in Mumbai, Gourav’s breakthrough role was in 2010’s My Name Is Khan. He’s also a classically trained musician. In The White Tiger, his character, Balram, becomes a driver for the wealthy Ashok, played by Hindi film star Rajkummar Rao, and Pinky Madam, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Chopra Jonas has spoken highly of her costars, calling Gourav “one of the most talented newcomers I’ve ever worked with, and one of the most remarkable performances I’ve seen in a long time.” She added that Rao is “already one of the most prolific actors in India, will showcase depths very few can.”

Pinky “comes in with this completely different perspective of life as it is in a developing country. That was really interesting for me to play, considering I’m an Indian,” Chopra Jonas told Entertainment Weekly of her role. “In my work in the U.S., I haven’t done a dramatic part like that. So that was very exciting to me.”

Ava DuVernay produces.

In addition to starring, Chopra Jonas is also executive-producing, with Ava DuVernay and Mukul Deora. Ramin Bahrani, who wrote the screenplay, directs. The Independent Spirit Award winner is known for works like Man Push Cart (2005), Chop Shop (2007), 99 Homes (2014), and Fahrenheit 451 (2018).

Having known author Adiga since college, Bahrani knew he wanted to bring The White Tiger to the screen before it was even published. “I remember reading early versions of The White Tiger years before he finished it,” he told EW. “I thought it was amazing. I always wanted to make a film of it. I’m grateful he trusted me to do it.”
