From marrying Prince Harry to announcing her pregnancy, it’s been a big year for the Duchess of Sussex. So, it’s no surprise that many of us wanted to know more about the actress turned royal.

Google has released the top-trending people searches in the UK over the past 12 months and for the second year running, Meghan Markle is at the top of the list. She hit the top spot ahead of English actress and Celebrity Big Brother star Roxanne Pallett, who was ranked in second place, and American singer, Demi Lovato, who has been named the third most-searched for person.

There’s no doubt interest in Markle peaked in May, when she tied-the-knot to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle. In fact, ‘royal wedding’ is the top trending news event of the year, with Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank‘s nuptials in October likely to have contributed to the search volume.

Continuing the royal theme, ‘royal baby’ is the third top trending news event. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child, Prince Louis, in April, just a few months before Harry and Meghan announced that they are expecting their first baby.

The top trending search query for the year overall? The World Cup – followed by Meghan Markle in second.
