Following its triumphant season in London’s West End, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical CATS is coming to the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a strictly limited season from December 17. Tickets are now on sale via Marina Bay Sands ticketing and SISTIC.
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks. The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
With a brand of indie pop she describes as “detuned dream pop”, the Canadian singer-songwriter has cultivated a portfolio that establishes her not just as a musician, but a true multifaceted creative. Allie X recently unveiled the music video for her tracks ‘Fresh Laundry,’ and ‘Rings A Bell’ giving her fans a first look at the follow-up to her breakout 2018 project ‘Super Sunset’. The synth-pop maven is currently on tour, opening for both Marina and Charli XCX as well as headlining in Asia. She has also just finished an opening stint for Hayley Kiyoko’s tour. She will perform for one night in Singapore for the first time on 6 December 2019, Friday at Live at The Crossroads, Clarke Quay.
After its lit inaugural launch last year, Asia’s first-of-its-kind street culture convention Culture Cartel is back this year from 6 to 8 December, and promises to be bigger and better. In this year’s edition, acclaimed street artists from New York, Crash and Stash, will be releasing exclusive customised merchandise in collaboration with Culture Cartel. Toy designers COARSE and Luke Chueh, both from LA, are also part of the exciting line-up. Tattoo enthusiasts will get to meet one of the world’s youngest working tattoo artists, Noko Nishigaki from Japan, as well as renowned watercolour tattoo artist Sasha Unisex from the US. And of course, expect nothing less than the trendiest streetwear brands from around the region to be showcased
All the way from the Royal Shakespeare Company of London, British Theatre Playhouse and The British Club jointly presents the first one-man reprise of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to ring in the festive mood this coming Christmas! The familiar timeless tale tells the story of the Scrooge and his rude awakening from his encounters with the spirits of his past, present and future. The play prompts a critique of greed and isolation, all whilst celebrating the spirit of Christmas and thanksgiving—a perfect treat for the young and old. The play will be brought to life by acclaimed British stage, television and film actor Clive Francis, whose exclusive one-man presentation of this epic tale has seen to a roaring sold-out success in the UK since the beginning of its tour in 2015.
French DJ, producer, and video-director extraordinaire, Martin Solveig‘s music has sold well into the millions, with his music videos renowned for their class, and his performances continue to electrify audiences in every corner of the globe. 2011 was a phenomenal year for Solveig, releasing his fourth album ‘Smash’ and being ranked No.29 in the prestigious DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs. The talented DJ has collaborated with the likes of legendary pop-icon Madonna, David Guetta, Jax Jones, Dragonette and Laidback Luke. With a string of top hits under his belt such as “+1”, “Do It Right” and “Places”, Solveig continues to be one of the world’s most in-demand performers, whether it’s headlining festival stages, playing intimate clubs or performing on national TV for millions of viewers. His presence has an innate ability to make each and every person in a room feel welcome, invited and free of inhibitions, making him one of the most exciting and talented performers in the world.
What does the future hold for Singapore? As part of the Singapore Bicentennial commemoration this year, “2219: Futures Imagined” is an exhibition which explores the next 200 years—between now and 2219—the year Singapore will commemorate its Quadricentennial. Featuring thought-provoking artworks by over two dozen local and international contemporary artists and designers, the exhibition will be presented in five Acts which explore how Singapore’s society, culture and traditions may evolve when faced with global changes, and aim to show how life may be impacted by changes in the Earth’s environment.
Experience indie music on another level at The Alex Blake Charlie Sessions which will be held at a unique heritage location, the Pasir Panjang Power Station on 7 December. Headliners include acclaimed Welsh avant-pop musician Cate Le Bon, Brooklyn band Charly Bliss, with frontwoman Eva Hendricks, as well as the post-punkers Goat Girl from London. Other performers include Kero Kero Bonito featuring indie-pop darling Sarah Midori Perry; and the fierce duo of Nancy Whang and Rayna Russom as a joint-DJ showcase as Ladies of LCD Soundsystem and Northern Irish singer-songwriter SOAK, aka Bridie Monds-Watson. And from Singapore, expect indie rocker Ginette Chittick and electro-soul-R&B songstress Vandetta.
Bar Rouge becomes a real club in the clouds as the stratospheric party transforms the club’s tunnel into a dreamscape of white cotton clouds illuminated by “electric sky” lights and presents its revellers unrivalled, unrestricted panoramas of the annual fireworks display from its 71st storey perch atop Singapore’s tallest hotel Swissôtel the Stamford. Be sure to come dressed in different blue hues as the dress theme is “Midnight Blue”, and party the night away to the local all-star line-up of resident DJs playing high voltage beats into the new year.
