Fancy the idea of a lazy Sunday brunch in an idyllic al fresco setting by the river? French bistro Les Bouchons Rive Gauche at Robertson Quay takes advantage of its waterside location to offer diners just that. Head Chef Mickael Cornac has crafted a menu of Gallic delights full of both traditional flavours and modern twists that is on offer every Sunday from 11.30am to 3.30pm.
A healthy and delicious start to the meal is Riviera Wellness Bowl ($18++) which has rows of granola, goji berries, banana, strawberries and chia seeds artfully arranged atop honey yoghurt.

If you had a hard night partying the night before, you might appreciate the Bouchons Hangover Cure ($24++). This is the bistro’s take on the Impossible trend – with beautifully moulded Impossible meatballs, scrambled eggs with truffle oil, porcini mushroom, cherry tomatoes and asparagus on toasted sourdough. The texture of the meatballs doesn’t disappoint and the hearty combination of foods is sure to settle any stomach suffering from an excess of alcohol the night before.
Classic French favourites like the Escargots De Bourgogne ($16++) with garlic butter, Eggs Mimosa ($14++) with sauteed garlic asparagus and steak frites crafted out of Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak ($39.80++) don’t disappoint.

But the absolute standout of the meal is the Bouchons Sunday Roast ($32++), which was a beautifully marinated beef short rib rich in flavour and cooked for 10 hours till tender and falling off the bone. This roast will vary from week to week depending on market availability but aside from the short rib, you could find a lamb shank or a lamb leg, steak or even quail. “It’s best to call ahead to find out,” Cornac advises.
Finish off the meal in traditional fashion by ordering the thin and delicious Crepes ($8++) with a choice of fine sugar, Nutella, Nutella banana, or honey. Together with a wide selection of beverages, cocktails and champagne on offer, you might find yourself whiling more than a few hours away of your Sunday in this beguiling little slice of France by the river.
