Gemma Chan is rumoured to be joining Marvel’s The Eternals, after already having starred in Captain Marvel in the same cinematic universe.

Chan previously played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, but it's as yet unconfirmed as to whether she’ll play the same role in The Eternals.

Typically, characters tend to play the same role across films, so, if not cast as Minn-Erva, this would mark one of the first times a star will play two different characters in the same cinematic universe, reports Variety.

The Crazy Rich Asians star would join previously announced The Eternals cast members Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani.

The Eternals is set millions of years ago, where cosmic beings called Celestials experimented on humans to create the super-powered Eternals, as well as rival villains the Deviants.

Chloe Zhao will direct the superhero film, which is based on the 1976 comic book series created by Jack Kirby, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Chan has previously starred in hit television series Humans and the much-loved film Crazy Rich Asians, as well as featuring in Mary Queen of Scots and Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

The film marks the 25th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will premiere on 6 November 2020.

Marvel have declined to comment on Chan's casting.
