Jonathan Anderson Curates A Chance Encounter Between Art and Fashion
The exhibition embodies LOEWE's celebration of tradition and modernity
Continuing with his artistic vision of exploring the generative nature of contradiction, Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director for LOEWE, has curated an exhibition entitled Chance Encounters for the brand’s store in Miami Design District.
In this show, Anderson brings together four important historical and contemporary figures of British art: Anthea Hamilton, Paul Nash, Lucie Rie, and Rose Wylie. An 18th Century stone and wood granary building, transported from Spain, is installed as the locus around which the artworks intermingle – seamlessly welding together the past and the present, the traditional and the modern.
"When I first conceived the idea of the LOEWE store in Miami I wanted to create an environment in which to bring Spanish history and craft into a modern context. My ultimate goal with LOEWE and the LOEWE FOUNDATION, is to create dialogues with art, craft and other creative fields. This exhibition is a personal snapshot of single moment, bringing together things that have recently lodged in my mind and shaped my thinking. For me art is a lens through which to examine the current moment," says Anderson.
The exhibition is running until the 17 January 2016. Watch the video below to hear Anderson explain his creative vision and inspiration behind Chance Encounters.
