Even though she’s currently busy catwalking her way through NYFW, that hasn’t stopped Karlie Kloss from starting her first week of school at N.Y.U.—a feat made possible by a fellow model.

Of course super status can’t get you out of going through the standard college application process, but it can afford you the opportunity to have your idol write a glowing recommendation. In Kloss’s case, that’s Christy Turlington.

“It was all about my crush on Karlie in 500 words,” the ’90s fashion icon told The New York Times of the letter she penned. “She is going to take this education and blow it up. She’s so eager and ready and thoughtful about her next steps.”

Kloss credits Turlington (who, at the height of her fame, took a step back from modelling in 1994 to pursue an education) as inspiration to try her hand at juggling work and academics.

“The whole idea of believing I could go to college, and model, comes straight from Christy. It’s a lot to take on,” she explained to the newspaper, before joking: “But I may ask for help with homework!”

While Turlington kept her career on hold—for a graduate program at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health—don’t expect Kloss to take the same path. Because the 23-year-old plans on walking runways for years to come.

“I want to do this job for decades, but I don’t want to burn myself out with it now,” she said. “Going to school is part of that balance. There’s so much I want to learn.”

Smart girl.
