Kate Beckinsale was accidentally mistaken for Duchess Kate Middleton, and she had the most hilarious reaction to the inaccuracy that drew equally endearing comments from her fellow actors in Hollywood.
A few days ago, Beckinsale shared on Instagram that she was hospitalized for an erupted ovarian cyst. She uploaded an image of herself in a hospital bed and candidly captioned the photo, “Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry. So thankful to everyone who looked after me #wobbly❤️”

Fans commented to show their support and wish her a speedy recovery, and the media naturally reported the news. The only caveat: One publication mistakenly used a photo of Kate Middleton instead of Kate Beckinsale for its story.
Kate B. came across the photo snafu on USA Today and shared a screengrab of the article to her official Instagram feed where she wrote a surprisingly refreshing take on the mixup.

She wrote: “So moved and touched by all the kind wishes I have received over the last few days and staggered by the similar and worse stories my #cysters have been sending me. I am feeling much better and I hope all the other girls going through it are too. Back to resume my royal duties. William says hi ❤️”
Kate’s peers in Hollywood also appreciated her ability to laugh off the matter. Sarah Hyland of Modern Family wrote, “Tell Meghan I say hi! 😂.” The interaction was pointed out by the account @commentsbycelebs, which posts celebrities’ comments on each others’ Instagram posts. (Earlier this week, the IG page pointed out that Patrick Dempsey left a cute-yet-succinct comment on former Grey’s Anatomy costar Kate Walsh’s photo.)
Rose McGown also chimed in, writing, “You e made us proud, Duchess [sic].” And Matt Dillon said, “Get well soon kid.”

USA Today wrote an apology for it’s oversight to the actress under her IG photo. “First and foremost, we’re glad to hear you’re feeling much better. We apologize for the image associated with this story. It appears our system pulled the first image in the photo gallery at the bottom of the story, instead of the image of you we put in the story. I just so happens the lead photo in the gallery is of Duchess Kate. We regret the error and are working to make sure this does not happen again.”
