Katy Perry's Epic "Rise" Music Video Is Finally Here

After weeks of releasing teasers and trailers, Katy Perry's "Rise" music video is finally here. It premiered last night during the Rio Olympics Preview Special on NBC—a fitting debut for the song, which doubles as this year's Olympic anthem.

This marks Perry's first official music video in two years, since party track "This Is How We Do" in the summer of 2014. Just as the previews have suggested, the full vid is a major production, documenting Perry's struggles with a parachute in the desert, underwater and in other treacherous situations. It's a major departure from the sugar-sweet, cotton-candy images of her "California Gurls" days.

After teasing fans with a 27-second preview last week, Katy Perry released another trailer for her forthcoming music video "Rise," proving what we were already suspecting: it's going to be epic.

The mini montage shows Perry struggling with a massive parachute—getting tangled in its strings, hanging from it for dear life on a treacherous cliff, resisting its backward pull as she sprints forward—but the visuals still evoke themes of resilience and determination, especially as her uplifting track plays in the background.

Plus, the pop star finally revealed that the full music video will debut on August 4. If the previews are already this intense, we can only imagine how huge the full-length will be. Watch Perry's second "Rise" trailer below.
