– Lady Gaga took to Instagram to showcase her support of those protesting across the country demanding justice over the death of George Floyd and countless other Black Americans at the hands of police enforcement.
– “I applaud the brave citizens of this nation that are speaking up, and I support the unsupported voices of the Black community. I wish for their voices to be heard loudly and clearly,” wrote Gaga in her post.
– The singer previously called out President Donald Trump‘s response to Floyd’s death, stating he “offers nothing but ignorance and prejudice while Black lives continue to be taken.”
Lady Gaga is continuing to show her support for those on the front line of the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Wednesday, the “Rain on Me” singer took to Instagram to applaud the protesters who have demanded justice over the last eight days for the killing of George Floyd and dozens of others at the hands of police enforcement.
Following yesterday’s announcement that all four officers involved in Floyd’s murder had finally been charged, she wrote, “Because of the voices of the people, a principle this country was founded upon, now all four officers have been arrested for the racist and brutal murder of George Floyd. I hope that all cops who have engaged in or are engaging in any racist activity are met with the highest form of law & order, although we know the law & order in this country is predicated upon racism and is itself corrupt. We are once again witnessing the devastating and overwhelming evidence of police brutality and prejudicial responses from prosecutors and local officials. I also hope for the families of all Black lives who have been taken from us to see justice and healing though I believe many of us know we sadly cannot promise that.”
Gaga continued on, expressing how much she believes in the power of protest and how proud she is of those who have taken to the streets to demand racial justice and a complete overhaul of America’s police force.
“I applaud the brave citizens of this nation that are speaking up, and I support the unsupported voices of the Black community. I wish for their voices to be heard loudly and clearly, and that they feel loved and amplified by allies. I know you know how much I believe in kindness,” declared Gaga. “The spirit of this movement is intrinsically rooted in a universal dream of kindness and it’s precisely that same kindness that I am wishing for those that are suffering tonight. I have endless compassion in my heart as we struggle as one nation to find bold and effective solutions to an insidious and systemic problem that’s plagued our country since its birth.”
Following her message of support, the pop star shared that she had donated to two causes: Black Lives Matter and The Loveland Foundation, an organization that works to uplift the voices of Black women and girls in our communities.
