In 1932, Coco Chanel was preparing to show her debut fine-jewelry collection, Bijoux de Diamants, in London. The presentation, however, was canceled after the jewels, en route from Paris, were held up in Customs. Now her designs will finally be unveiled as part of a multifaceted exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery. “Mademoiselle Privé,” opening this month, will feature re-editions of the original pieces, as well as portraits shot by Karl Lagerfeld in Chanel’s Paris apartment of some of today’s most fashionable women wearing the jewelry. Among them is Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. “She was so revolutionary to fashion,” Lily-Rose says of Chanel. “It was inspiring to be where all that creative thinking and all those ideas took place.”

“Mademoiselle Privé” opens at Saatchi Gallery on 13 October 2015.
