Lizzo is bringing her A game to the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer arrived on the red carpet wearing a billowing navy blue gown. The dramatic piece, hailing from Jean Paul Gaultier's spring/summer 2022 couture collection, featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and cascades of iridescent fabric engulfing her figure. She accessorized with matching sheer opera gloves and gold jewelry, which included multiple hoop earrings, as well as a cuff adorning her green-tinted lips.

Tonight, Lizzo is up for five awards: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Video for Good, and Song of the Summer. She is also among tonight's performers; others include Bad Bunny, Jack Harlow, Blackpink, and Nicki Minaj.

Lizzo previously talked about the meaning behind her nominated single, "About Damn Time," in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1.

"'About Damn Time' can lead into so many conversations," she said, per Entertainment Tonight. "It's about damn time I feel better, it's about damn time we get out of this pandemic. It's about damn time we get the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. There's so many things. It's about damn time we popped the champagne. It's about damn time the tequila got here."

She also spoke to ELLE UK about her desire to create celebratory and uplifting music amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I had to remember, when we come out of lockdown, people are going to be coming out of a depression. And the end of lockdown does not signify the end of their mental-health struggles. So I wanted to make music that people can use as a soundtrack to survive," she told the magazine. "All of these incredible songs are giving people the language to express themselves and to have a release after everything they've experienced."
