Meghan Markle stepped out alongside Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family yesterday for the 2019 Commonwealth Day service in London, wearing a white Victoria Beckham ensemble which – with its long white coat and matching cap – resembled a very chic nurse’s uniform. And as a quick look back through the photo archives will prove, her outfit choice holds major significance in the royal family.
Back on April 10, 1987, Princess Diana, Princess of Wales wore the above outfit for a visit to the Sandhurst Military Academy. Her ensemble featured a white suit by Catherine Walker with drum majorette gold frogging and epaulettes, along with an impeccable white cap. So whether consciously or not, Meghan’s outfit today pays moving tribute to Prince Harry’s late mother. See Diana’s full look below.

Much more recently, in April of 2017, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, wore a very similar ensemble as she attended the traditional Easter Sunday church service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. You can see her full outfit below.
