In April 2020, Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry revealed their plans to start a new nonprofit organization called Archewell. The Archie-inspired name was revealed when the couple filed a trademark application in March with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. However, Meghan and Harry’s priorities have since changed, and the couple is diverting their resources to work on more crucial current events.

The Telegraph reported, “Sources said the couple were responding to current affairs, redirecting their efforts to the Black Lives Matter cause and the wider repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.” The publication also noted that the delay of any future Archewell endeavors could be quite significant. Per The Telegraph, “it is understood they will now postpone public announcements for the foreseeable future, with no official Archewell projects until next year.”

Upon announcing their new charity, the Sussexes released a statement and explained, “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic… Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.”

More recently, Meghan and Harry have held meetings regarding Black Lives Matter to become more informed and find the best ways in which to support the movement.
