The Sussexes are joining the high-profile lineup for Global Citizen’s Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were named official campaign chairs for the upcoming live show, which is being produced to increase public confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine. Additional famous figures participating in the production include President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Ben Affleck, and Chrissy Teigen. Jennifer Lopez, J Balvin, H.E.R., and more will perform.
The livestreamed event, happening May 8, will be hosted by actress and musician Selena Gomez. The live audience will consist of vaccinated frontline and essential workers.
The Sussexes are expected to deliver a message on the importance of global vaccine equity, according to a press release. The pair have also been leading a coordinated effort to raise funds across the private sector for the vaccine-sharing program COVAX, which has wealthy governments share excess doses and encourages pharmaceutical companies like Moderna to make vaccines available at not-for-profit prices.
“Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle—together. Now we need to recover and heal—together,” Harry and Meghan said in a statement. “We can’t leave anybody behind. We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone everywhere has equal access to the vaccine. We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”
Watch Vax Live on Saturday, May 8, on ABC, ABC News Live, CBS, YouTube, iHeartMedia radio stations, and the iHeartRadio app at 8 p.m. ET.
