Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's landmark production deal with Netflix was announced only last fall, but they're already sharing the fruits of their labor with the announcement of their first docuseries with the streamer.

In partnership with the Duke of Sussexes’ Invictus Games Foundation, Heart of Invictus will follow a group of competitors—all service members or veterans—from around the world as they prepare for next year’s Invictus Games tournament in the Netherlands.

Over several episodes, viewers will join the competitors as they train and, per a statement shared with BAZAAR.com, “reveal powerful stories of resilience and hope.” Along the way, the series will also follow organizers from the sporting event as they prepare for the spring 2022 tournament in The Hague, which has been postponed twice since its original May 2020 date due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The project is being helmed by British director Orlando von Einsiedel and producer Joanna Natasegara. The Oscar-winning duo have won a number of awards for their work, including Best Documentary Short Subject for the 2016 Netflix original, The White Helmets, which follows three Syrian volunteer rescue workers as they risk their lives to save those affected by the war. Their work on documentaries Virunga and Evelyn have also won them critical acclaim.

Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014, will serve as an executive producer on the project as well as appearing on camera. “Since the very first Invictus Games back in 2014, we knew that each competitor would contribute in their own exceptional way to a mosaic of resilience, determination, and resolve,” he said in a statement shared with BAZAAR. “This series will give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year. As Archewell Productions’ first series with Netflix, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead or prouder of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, human potential and continued service.”

The Sussexes’ deal with Netflix covers a wide variety of formats, including documentaries, scripted and unscripted TV series, and children’s content. Their production arm of Archewell was created as a vehicle to produce programming that will “embrace our shared humanity and duty to truth through a compassionate lens,” reads the couple’s website. More project announcements are expected over the months ahead, including a cutting-edge nature docuseries and an animated show about inspiring women.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Archewell Productions team are building an ambitious slate that reflects the values and causes they hold dear,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix. “From the moment I met them, it’s been clear that the Invictus Games hold a very special place in their hearts, and I couldn’t be happier that their first series for Netflix will showcase that for the world in a way never seen before.”

Since 2014, the Invictus Games has regularly brought together servicemen, servicewomen, and veterans who have suffered life-changing injuries or illnesses to participate in what has quickly become a premiere sporting event. Dominic Reid, chief executive of the Invictus Games Foundation, said Heart of Invictus will present a new opportunity for people to learn about the organization.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity to shine the global spotlight of Netflix on the men and women that we work with, in order to ensure that even more people can be inspired by their determination and fortitude in working towards their recovery,” he said in a statement released by Netflix. “This partnership will also bring in significant funding to the charity. We are extremely grateful to our Founding Patron for his continued efforts to support the military community, and for making this partnership happen.”
