Queen Elizabeth has announced that her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg has died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

Prince Philip was recently hospitalised and underwent a surgery for his heart condition.

Buckingham Palace released a statement: ”It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

During a visit to Norfolk, England, in February to pay tribute to staff involved in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William told photographers that the 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was doing “okay—they’re keeping an eye on him.”

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were married in November 1947 and this year would have been their 74th wedding anniversary.

Further announcements will be made by the Royal Family in due course.
