Princess Sofia Of Sweden Celebrates Her 34th Birthday With A Stunning Portrait

A new photo of Princess Sofia of Sweden has been released in honor of her 34th birthday today. The Swedish Royal Court unveiled the new photo on its official Instagram with a sweet greeting for the royal. The beautiful shot, taken by photographer Erika Gerdemark, shows the princess smiling in a cream sweater, black trousers, and straight layered hair.

Sofia joined the Royal Family in June 2015, when she tied the knot with Prince Carl Philip, the second son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Before becoming an official royal, the stylish princess was a model and a reality TV star contestant in 2005 on Paradise Hotel, according to People.

Carl and Sofia have two children, two-year-old Prince Alexander and one-year-old Prince Gabriel, who are fifth and sixth in line for the Swedish throne.

The Royal Court recently released another official portrait in August, to mark Gabriel's first birthday. The sweet photo, also taken by Gerdemark, shows the little prince smiling at the camera.

Princess Sofia is known to be a big supporter of children's charities. Just after their wedding, Sofia and Carl started The Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia Foundation which works to counteract bullying, "with the vision that children and young people will have the right and possibility to be themselves," per the Swedish royal family’s official website.

In 2015 in South Africa, Sofia gave a speech at the Global Child Forum expressing her passion for helping kids around the world. "I have spent over five years in this beautiful country working with children, and years before that in other countries on this continent," she says. "I have seen a fair share of suffering, poverty, and neglect. But, I have also seen children's eyes light up as they are empowered to shape their own lives."
