The Queen Has A Strong Opinion About Having Lunch In Kate And William’s Renovated Kitchen

Don't expect Queen Elizabeth II to be grabbing lunch in Prince William and Duchess Kate's kitchen anytime soon.

At least, that's according to an anecdote relayed by royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, who wrote Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch.

Per a recent interview Bedell Smith gave to People, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge moved their family into Anmer Hall, which is located on the queen's estate in Norfolk, back in 2015 following a major renovation. The remodel helped transform their royal kitchen into a cozy space for Kate and her three children—nine-year-old Prince George, seven-year-old Princess Charlotte, and four-year-old Prince Louis—where she is frequently cooking or booking.

However, in spite of the royal renovations, the queen drew a line at eating inside a kitchen. "I remember when they had just finished renovating Anmer Hall, and they invited the Queen over for lunch," Bedell Smith said, per People. "They have one of those big kitchens with eating areas, and she said, 'I can't understand why everybody spends their time in the kitchen.'"

The Cambridges are currently in the midst of planning a move from London to Windsor, allowing them to be in much closer proximity to the monarch, who now largely resides at Windsor Castle, according to People.

And whether they occasionally eat a meal in their kitchen or not, the Cambridges "are representing the Queen impeccably," Bedell Smith said. "They're showing a kind of dedication she would be proud of. And that probably gives her hope."
