How Did Selena Gomez Get So Instagram Famous?

Despite Kim Kardashian's reign over selfies and the occasional nude photo on Instagram, Selena Gomez is the app's true queen. Earlier this year she became the most-followed person on the social media site (with over 89.5 million followers to date), trumping other celebs with huge followings, like Taylor Swift and the Kardashians. As of yesterday, she also has the most-liked photo on the app (below), beating out her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, who previously held the title with a throwback pic of him and Gomez kissing.

How exactly did Gomez reach this level of Instagram fame? For her, it was totally unintentional. "It wasn't my goal to be the most followed person," the 23-year-old singer and actress told The Hollywood Reporter, but she did admit it's her favourite social platform.

"I'm not sure there's a method to my madness," she added, though she did suggest to use emojis if you can't think of a witty caption.

"I try to find a good balance of just being 100 percent myself and knowing when to post a really good selfie with good lighting," Gomez revealed. Scroll once through her feed and you'll realize what she's talking about. The young celeb's profile is a mixture of selfies, photoshoot outtakes, personal videos (her current obsession) and professional photos on and off the stage—thanks to her tour photographer.

"I've created this bond with him, so it's super organic when he takes photos," she said of her cameraman. He's captured pictures of her in nearly every occasion, from rehearsing backstage and posing with fans to grocery shopping for her tour bus.
