THE YOGA GURU
Jessica Sinclair (@jessica.r.sinclair)
A fitness streak runs in Jessica Sinclair’s blood—her mother is Singapore’s ex-bodybuilder champion, Jojo Sinclair: “I grew up in the gym!” However, the younger Sinclair’s foray into yoga only began three years ago, when severe scoliosis (a medical condition where the spine curves abnormally) almost required her to go for surgery.
“I didn’t want to,” recalls the spunky 32-year-old, “so I decided to give yoga a shot.” After mastering the discipline and witnessing its transformative power on her well-being, Sinclair decided to open The Yoga Mandala. Her growing popularity on Instagram has helped draw attention to her practice and opened doors for her.
“I never thought anything would come out of it, so it’s been a real pleasant surprise,” Sinclair says. In March this year, she collaborated with Marks & Spencer on a special project called “The Art of Denim,” which showcased the versatility of the retailer’s jeans. Sinclair is excited about her upcoming projects; meanwhile, she is humbled by the experience.
“I never put myself on a pedestal,” she jokes, before turning serious. “At the end of the day, Instagram’s about meeting and learning from like-minded individuals.”
