Arguably the best month of the year, we shouldn’t look at December as the month that’s chock-full of celebrations, gift exchanges and countdown parties. Sure, there’s that. But December, too, has her schedule jam-packed with other fun-filled activities that we bet you’ll never forget. From the highly anticipated beach party (you know we’re talking about ZoukOut!) to an edgy street culture convention, here are the events you have to partake in before you bid farewell to 2018. Go all out with a bang, we say!
The fifth edition of Christmas Wonderland promises to be as exciting as its previous iterations, with plenty of new and improved offerings that will win over both repeat and new visitors. Be captivated by Asia’s tallest golden luminarie Christmas tree at the entrance before you head to their feature attraction: A spectacular 22-metre high mirror maze located at the heart of the Supertree Grove. You’d also get to experience the wonders of ‘snow’ during Blizzard Time, take pictures with Santa at his Alpine House within the Santa’s Grotto, and show some nifty moves at its outdoor skating rink. Its Festive Market, which will see specially designed wooden huts adapted from European Christmas markets, is the spot to go for tasty treats, handmade crafts and boutique goods. Tickets are available for purchase both online and on-site. Online ticketing prices start from $4 for one time entry from Nov 30 to Dec 6. To buy, visit here.
Annual dance and music festival ZoukOut has been a highly anticipated event among party-goers since 2000. This year, instead of a two-day shindig, it will be a one-night-only party held at the start of the month (instead of the usual middle of the month). Still, the beach-fest at Siloso Beach promises to be jam-packed with exciting performances by international DJs and stunning pyrotechnic displays. Look forward to dance pop duo Galantis, award winning brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, as well as electro-house gargantuan KSHMR. Tickets for general admission cost $158, while a bundle of four costs $620. VIP tickets are priced at $248 each. Visit their website for more information. General admission tickets are $20 more if your purchase them at the door ($178).
Co-organised by Habitual, Axis Group Asia and Division Communication, this event is seen as Asia’s first all-encompassing street culture convention. Gathering the best street culture in and out of Asia, this consumer trade show will include different sectors of art, toys, tattoo and fashion. “Hypebeast” fans will get to enjoy street art and graffiti done by underground artists, Mightyellow and Stash. Don’t forget to look out for retail pop-up stores of brands such as Vans, Adidas and Pestle & Mortar Clothing. Tickets will cost $20 for either Saturday or Sunday and $30 for the whole weekend. If you’re interested in their opening preview that’s happening on Friday (Nov 30), their GOAT pack will grant you VIP access for all three days at $100. Visit their website for more information.
Are you looking to jazz up your apartment with Christmas feels? Learn how to make your very own Christmas wreath with a workshop organised by Ask A French Flowers. If you’re familiar with the phrases “Shante, you stay” and “If you can’t love yourself, how in the h*ll are you gonna love somebody else?”, you would definitely not want to miss this. Brought to you by LA Comedy Live, Shangela — best known for being on RuPaul’s Drag Race (season 3) and Rupaul’s Drag Race: All Stars (Season 3) — is making a special stop in Singapore to entertain audiences with hilarious and witty anecdotes and games. The talented diva (aka D.J. Pierce), who created the catchphrase “Halleloo”, is also a budding actor, having appeared in shows such as 2 Broke Girls (2012), Glee (2012), and romantic drama A Star is Born (2018), which stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. We’re hoping he’d share some little-known tidbits he experienced while on set! Tickets are from $78 to $138, whereas Meet-and-Greet passes cost $188. Get your tickets from Sistic.
