If you think holiday shopping for your extended family is hard, imagine being the Duchess of Cambridge. How does one even begin to buy presents for the British royal family? Duchess Kate opens up about such conundrums in an upcoming documentary, Our Queen at 90, in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday.

"I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas," Duchess Kate recalls. "And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present.'" Naturally, the Duchess handled it all in stride, putting together a sentimental homemade gift for the monarch: a jar of chutney from her own grandmother's recipe.

"I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. And I thought, 'I'll make her something.' Which could have gone horribly wrong," says the Duchess. "I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table. I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me. ... I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody."

The film marks the Duchess of Cambridge's first television interview as a member of the royal family; she appears in the film, airing in the U.K. on Sunday, March 27, alongside her husband  Prince William and family members including Prince Harry, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

Last week, the Duchess opened up about her children's special relationship with their great-grandmother, revealing Prince George calls Queen Elizabeth "Gan-Gan." Watch more clips from the documentary here.
