Think flowers with individual petals crafted out of icing, whole galaxies sprawled across a triple-tier cake, or the most wow-worthy trend: geode cakes that resemble cut open crystals.

But no matter how different the cakes are in design, they all have two things in common: They’re so beautiful it almost hurts to take a bite, and for anyone who’s not a baking prodigy, they seem utterly impossible to even attempt. “Online videos will never tell you what is wrong with the work and cannot give proper advice,” says Serena Tang from Nanatang, a bakery-cum-studio that engages international and local master bakers to share their skills through hands-on baking classes. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or an expert, there’s something for everyone, from Serena’s famous Korean buttercream flowers to award-winning Carla Puig’s chocolate face sculptures.
