Ah, the breakup anthem. A tale as old as time - boy meets girl, someone breaks someone's heart, and the rest of us will never hear the end of it.

But when a breakup anthem is done well, it's impossible to ignore, and the two pop queens' latest singles are everywhere right now - leaving everybody wondering, how much is too much shade to throw at your ex? Shakira's "Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53"

Shakira doesn't hold back in her collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap, which takes savage digs at her former partner of over ten years, footballer Gerard Piqué. "You traded a Rolex for a Casio...you traded a Ferrari for a Twingo," the Colombian superstar sings, reportedly referencing Piqué's new girlfriend, Clara Chía (rumoured to be the 'other woman' in Piqué and Shakira's relationship). Within hours of the song's release, Shakira began trending at number one worldwide on Twitter, along with several of the brands mentioned in the diss track - Rolex and Casio, to name a few. As for Chía, Spanish media outlets have reported that Piqué's new beau is stressed and scared to leave her own home in the aftermath of the song's success.

Miley Cyrus' "Flowers"

Cyrus dropped her latest banger, "Flowers," on January 13 - which just so happens to be ex-husband Liam Hemsworth's birthday. In what appears to be a reference to Bruno Mars' 2012 ballad "When I Was Your Man," Cyrus croons that she can "buy myself flowers" and "love me better than you can." And in another reference which seems to hit a little too close to home, Cyrus sings that she "built a home and watched it burn," referencing the 2018 wildfires which swept Southern California and destroyed dozens of homes (including her and Hemsworth's). The disco-pop track, set to anchor Cyrus' upcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, is undoubtedly catchy, empowering and climbing the charts - but Hemsworth, who was recently photographed by paparazzi catching a flight with new girlfriend Gabriella Brooks, appears to be unbothered by the buzz.
