Zoë Kravitz is speaking openly about her first impression of now-boyfriend Channing Tatum.

In a new interview with WSJ. Magazine, Kravitz talked about working with Tatum for her directorial debut, Pussy Island.

"When you make things with people it's a very sacred space, and when you're compatible with somebody creatively it often opens up other channels, because you're kind of sharing all of yourself," she said.

Of Tatum, she added, "I'm really grateful that this movie has brought him into my life that way."

Kravitz said she wanted to cast "someone who hadn't played a dark character before, because I think that's exciting to watch someone who's mostly played boy next door, good guy, love interest, all of that."

Even prior to their first meeting, The Batman actress had a good feeling about Tatum.

"I felt, even from afar, before I knew him, that he was a feminist and that he wasn't afraid of exploring that darkness, because he knows he's not that," she said. "That's why I was drawn to him and wanted to meet with him. And I was right."

Along with E.T. Feigenbaum, Kravitz co-wrote the screenplay for Pussy Island, in which Tatum plays a tech billionaire who invites a cocktail waitress (played by Naomi Ackie) to his private island. Kravitz apparently wrote the part with Tatum in mind.

"It's always really intriguing to have someone bring you something that literally no one else has ever thought of you for," the Magic Mike alum told WSJ. Magazine. "I didn't know Zoë before I met her for the film. When we first met the movie was pretty different than its form now, but the themes were the same. All the iterations it has gone through were all pretty punk rock, to be honest."

Kravitz expressed a similar sentiment in a February interview with ELLE.

"Looking at his work and hearing him speak about Magic Mike and the live show, I'm like, I think he's a feminist. You need to be so far from who this is, where it's not scary," she said at the time. "And I don't think we've ever seen him play someone dark. I'm excited to see him do that."

The two first ignited dating rumors in January 2021 after Kravitz filed for divorce from ex-husband Karl Glusman. Though a source at the time claimed the actors weren't romantically involved, they were spotted making PDA-filled appearances in New York City later that year.
