Adele Says She Was A "Shell Of A Person" After Calling Off Her Vegas Residency
"I thought I could pull it together and make it work, and I couldn't, and I stand by that decision," the star said.
Adele stands by her decision to postpone her Las Vegas concert residency.
The "Rolling in the Deep" singer opened up about the last-minute choice to call off her run of concerts at Caesars' Palace last January. During her appearance on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, she told host Lauren Laverne that the decision was "brutal," and that she felt her fans' disappointment.

"I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down," she said. "I was a shell of a person for a couple of months. I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal."
The superstar added that she did not want to put on a show that wasn't "good enough." In her January announcement, a teary Instagram video to her fans, she explained that half her team had gotten COVID-19 and were still recovering, and it had been "impossible to finish the show."

"I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision. I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money. I’m like, the show’s not good enough."
Last weekend, the "Easy on Me" singer gave her first public concerts in five years, playing two nights at London's Hyde Park. It was an emotional return to the stage, with several outlets reporting that the star held back tears while addressing the audience during her opening song, saying, "My God, I’m back at home."

New dates for the residency have yet to be announced, but Adele said during an The Graham Norton Show appearance in February that the performances will "absolutely, 100 percent" be happening before the end of the year. She also told BBC Radio that while she's working on the show, updates may be few and far between.
"Of course, I could be someone on TikTok or Instagram Live every day being like, 'I'm working on it,' she said. "Of course, I'm working on it! I'm not gonna update you if I ain't got nothing to update you with because that just leads to more disappointment."
