Amanda Seyfried Recalls Being Pushed To Do Nude Scenes As A Young Actress

"Being 19, walking around without my underwear on—like, are you kidding me?"

Today, Amanda Seyfried is beloved for her roles in films such as cult-classic musical Mamma Mia!, teen dramedy Mean Girls, and timeless romantic comedy Letters to Juliet—but as an up-and-coming actress, she also participated in projects she is less proud of.

In her teenage years, Seyfried starred in soap operas As the World Turns and All My Children, where she was required to do some nude scenes. Speaking with Porter, she reflected on her decision, saying that she should have known better, but she was young and didn't want to lose her job.

"Being 19, walking around without my underwear on—like, are you kidding me?" Seyfried said. "How did I let that happen?" Oh, I know why: I was 19, and I didn't want to upset anybody, and I wanted to keep my job. That's why."

Now a mom of two and married to fellow actor Thomas Sadoski, Seyfried also has some qualms about one of the characters that made her famous: Karen Smith from Mean Girls.

In an interview with Marie Claire earlier this year, Seyfried said she is not a fan of the now-viral scene in which Karen says she can predict the weather with her breasts. The actress said she "felt grossed out" when men would quote the line. "I was like 18 years old," she added. "It was just gross."

Still, Seyfried is glad she had a great early career, and survived the pre-#MeToo era "pretty unscathed," she told Porter.
