Anne Hathaway Reveals Her Favourite 'The Devil Wears Prada' Look

Anne Hathaway's film The Devil Wears Prada fueled many a fashion daydream during the early 2000s and to this day remains a beloved classic. Her character's stylish transformation speaks not only to our fascination with high fashion, but also to female empowerment and professional success. Having said that, the clothes on the screen are, indeed, delightful.

Hathaway spoke of the enviable wardrobe of her character, Andrea Sachs, during a conversation with designer Michael Kors for her Interview cover story. Kors asked her to choose her favourite look from the movie, and to our surprise, it wasn't the Chanel boots that have given us so many great memes over the years, but another outfit by the French fashion house.

"I love what I wore to the James [Holt] party, that velvet Chanel coat that went to the knees, and then the miniskirt and the stockings and the slouched boots," Hathaway said. The look was completed with layers of Chanel necklaces. The actress then said the outfit was probably a "sample," because she "kept finding straight pins in it."

Those who follow Hathaway's street and red-carpet style know her ensembles often look like they were pulled straight out of the Runway ("Runway is a fashion magazine, so an interest in fashion is crucial") sample closet, and there's a reason for that. In her interview, Hathaway said she was greatly inspired by The Devil Wears Prada's costume designer, Patricia Field, who also put together the looks in Sex and the City and Emily in Paris, sharing that she felt "so influenced by getting to work with Patricia Field and having conversations with her about how to put outfits together."

Meryl Streep, who played Miranda Priestly, Andrea's glamorous and icy magazine boss in the cult classic, told Entertainment Weekly, "Pat did a miracle with this. It's like all the special effects in Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible movies, this is the female equivalent of that. It was her great relationships with all the wonderful houses, the designers, the people in the fashion business that she was able to, because she's so loved. She borrowed everything; we had to be very careful not to eat spaghetti at lunch because it'd go down the front and they couldn't return it!"
