We could tell you about the awards that local artist Jahan Loh has won (the Nokia Arts Competition in 1998 and Taiwan’s TIAF Taipei Special Award in 2005 included). Or the accolades he has garnered (MTV Asia's CD cover Design of the Year, anyone?). Or even list the numerous cities across the globe that he successfully exhibited in (New York, Tokyo, Beijing and Melbourne not exempted).
Instead, what we’ll tell you about this highly accomplished and respected urban artist is that you may have owned his artwork without even realizing it. He has collaborated with an envy-inducing list of brands on toy, apparel and footwear projects that collectors scramble to get their hands on. Adidas, Reebok, VANS, Sony, Samsung, Carhartt, Devilock, Subcrew, Casio G-Shock and HEX are just some of the big industry players who have sought his talent and vision.
Now, with B-Side and Rarities, Loh’s two week exhibition at ION Art Gallery, you’ll be able to gain a unique perspective on what goes on behind-the-scenes of his work; and an insight to the thought processes that result in the final product.
“Art has always been the heart of design, fashion and pop-culture but not many are aware of how evident its influence is” says Jahan Loh. “With this pop-up exhibit, I wish to cultivate an understanding of the influence of art in modern living by providing an exclusive peek into the mind of an artist and by juxtaposing actual art pieces with corresponding commercial merchandise.”
'B-Side and Rarities' will run from 18 February to 2 March 2016, 11am to 8pm daily (except 26 February, 11am to 3pm), Ion Art Gallery, #04-01 ION Orchard. Admission is free.
