Everyone Cast In The Batman Remake So Far

Robert Pattinson will take on the titular role, while Zoë Kravitz will be Catwoman

Alas, another iteration of the Batman saga is underway. Matt Reeves (CloverfieldDawn of the Planet of the Apes) is helming a new rendition of the caped crusader for Warner Bros. and, as is tradition with modern superhero flicks,  the cast is shaping up to be a star-studded one. Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Paul Dano's names are attached to the project, while Jeffrey Wright is reported to join.

Reeves's The Batman is set to release on June 25, 2021. Here's what we know about the cast so far.

Robert Pattinson: Batman

Pattinson follows Ben Affleck and Christian Bale as the latest actor to take on the Dark Knight. His casting was announced in May after weeks of speculation.

While fans of the Twilight star may deem him perfect to play the dark and brooding superhero, Pattinson thinks it's "kind of insane." He told Esquire U.K., "I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I've got it, at all."

Zoë Kravitz: Catwoman

Warner Bros. has confirmed that the Big Little Lies star will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the forthcoming film. As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, Kravitz previously voiced the role in 2017's The Lego Batman Movie. She's the latest Hollywood Cool Girl to slip into the catsuit, following Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and Eartha Kitt.

It was previously rumored that other actresses considered for the role included Lupita Nyong'o, Tessa Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alexandra Shipp, and Logan Browning. Even The Crown's Vanessa Kirby was speculated to be a contender.

Jeffrey Wright: Commissioner James Gordon

The Westworld star will play Gotham City's police commissioner, James Gordon, director Matt Reeves announced on TwitterThe Hollywood Reporter first reported that the actor was in negotiations for the role in late September.

Wright will succeed Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight trilogy) and J.K. Simmons (Justice League) as the titular superhero's Bat-Signal-helming associate.

Paul Dano: The Riddler

Paul Dano will take on the role of Edward Nashton, better known as The Riddler, Batman's puzzling nemesis. The actor frequently appears in award-nominated projects—like Escape at DannemoraLittle Miss Sunshine, and There Will Be Blood—so you know this Batman reboot isn't messing around.

Jim Carey famously portrayed The Riddler (who then went by the name of Edward Nygma) in 1995's Batman Forever opposite Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, and Nicole Kidman.

Colin Farrell: The Penguin

Farrell takes the role of Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Batman's nemesis Penguin. We don't know much about what's in store for his character in Reeves's take—we suspect it'll be nothing like Danny DeVito's take in Batman Returns—but Farrell teased that the project boasts a "really beautiful, dark, moving script." One can only imagine what the actor will look like in full costume, pointed nose and top hat included.

Last fall, it was reported that producers were pursuing Jonah Hill for a villain role, such as The Penguin or The Riddler, but soon after, it outlets updated that he was no longer in talks to appear in the film.

Andy Serkis: Alfred Pennyworth

Portraying Bruce Wayne's trusted butler and confidante, Alfred Pennyworth, is Andy Serkis, though we're not expecting much of a CGI transformation here.

After watching Michael Cane's proper English performance (The Dark Knight trilogy) and Jeremy Irons's rugged and technically advanced interpretation (Justice League) in recent cinematic history, it's unclear which direction Serkis will take Batman's go-to guy.

John Turturro: Carmine Falcone

Gotham has found its formidable crime boss, Carmine Falcone, in John Turturro (MonkTransformersThe Big Lebowski). Tom Wilkinson portrayed the mob chief—who's also referred to as The Roman in the comics—in 2005's Batman Begins.

Peter Sarsgaard: Gil Solson

Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent SevenBlack Mass) rounds out the cast as Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson. The casting news came as a surprise for fans who speculated that the actor would play Harvey Dent (a.k.a. Two-Face), who was last portrayed by Aaron Eckhart in Christopher Nolan's series.

Jayme Lawson: Bella Reál

Hollywood newcomer and Juilliard grad Jayme Lawson enters the Batman universe as mayoral candidate Bella Reál. As ComicBook.com points out, the role doesn't appear in the comics, so she may be a new figure introduced by Matt Reeves, or "Bella Reál" could be an alias for an iconic Batman villain that's yet to be revealed.

Aside from The Batman, catch Lawson in 2020's Farewell Armor, which recently debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.
