Remember in late 2021 when we all found out about Wordle and began boasting about our scores on social media and getting competitive with our friends over our ability to guess words? Well, Ben Affleck was right there with us—and still is.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor admitted he's actually in a celebrity Wordle league with pals Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, and Jason Bateman.

The Deep Water star was speaking to the magazine about how he spent his time during his most recent stint with COVID-19, when he felt so sick he couldn't even muster up the strength to get out his cellphone to play Octordle. Wait, what?

He explained, "Octordle. It's just Wordle with more words. Don't be impressed, it's not harder. I was invited to join a cool little red velvet rope celebrity Wordle group. Matt [Damon]'s one of them. Jason Bateman and Bradley [Cooper]."

Affleck added that he became quite addicted to the word game, but though he initially thought he would be able to easily defeat all his famous friends, he was wrong.

"Actually, the first rule of Wordle is don't talk about Wordle. Unless you get it in three guesses. I used to do the crossword compulsively in the mornings and think I was good at word games. And let's face it, going up against actors, it's not a high bar. I expected to do fairly well, so I was seriously humbled," he joked. "You have to do the Wordle, the Quordle and the Octordle, and add up your score, and then whoever gets the lowest score wins for the day. It's fiercely competitive, and there's a lot of mockery and derision. So I'm in training."

Affleck and Damon are longtime friends. They first collaborated 25 years ago, when they wrote the screenplay for Good Will Hunting—and won Oscars for their efforts. Now, they have their own production company, Artists Equity, founded on the premise of profit-sharing among all creators. The company's first movie is Air, which Affleck directs and is set to premiere April 5.

Hilarious hobbies aside, Affleck also got real in the interview about some controversies that have followed him through the years, including the time his comments about his relationship with ex-wife Jennifer Garner got misconstrued and the time he became a meme for looking miserable at the 2023 Grammys with wife Jennifer Lopez.

"I had a good time," he insisted.
