Actress Charlotte Riley has been cast to play the Duchess of Cambridge in upcoming BBC2 film, King Charles III.
The drama, which has been adapted from a play script by Doctor Foster screenwriter Mike Bartlett, will see Riley step into Kate's shoes. The 34-year-old actress is known for her role as horse trainer May Carleton Peaky Blinders. She's married to fellow actor Tom Hardy.
"I'm really excited to come on board for King Charles III," said Riley. "It's such a unique project, to be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story, is an exciting prospect for an actor.
"Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to."
The play will depict an imagining of Prince Charles's accession to the throne following the Queen's death. In the film, he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law, causing rioting and chaos.
