Disney+ Releases To Watch And Look Out For In 2023

New year means new shows and new movies to look out for, from the release of the highly-anticipated Little Mermaid live-action remake to Korean star Park Seo Joon joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This year, we attended Disney’s Content Showcase held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre and got insights on upcoming movies, first looks at unrevealed trailers and characters, and even a special look at Avatar: The Way Of Water. Below, we've rounded up the best Disney+ shows to look out for in 2023 as well as all the sneak peeks we got.

We’ve just reached the end of phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. First in line for phase 5 we have the return of Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will definitely have theatres filled to the brim. Join the Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and their family as they explore the Quantum Realm and meet strange new beings, coming to screens on 17 February 2023.






Moving away from technologically-advanced or biologically-altered superheroes, Secret Invasion turns the spotlight on to Nick Fury - the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and founder of the Avengers. The series features shape-shifting Skrulls who have infiltrated Earth for years. Keep your eyes peeled for Secret Invasion, out on Disney+ in 2023.

Starring the talented Halle Bailey, The Little Mermaid live-action movie is set to hit theatres on 26 May 2023. Expect brand-new crafted songs in collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton, Moana and Encanto. Halle Bailey will co-star with comedian-actor Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy, who is slated to play the iconic Disney villain Ursula.

Another live-action Disney remake we can look forward to next year reimagines the classic Peter Pan movie. Now titled Peter Pan & Wendy, the film takes audiences on a magical journey to Neverland with Wendy, played by Ever Anderson. The film is directed by David Lowery and will also star Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Yara Sahidi as Tinkerbell and, of course, Jude Law as the famous Captain Hook.

Ready to embark on yet another adventure? The legendary Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, is returning for the 5th instalment of the iconic franchise. The film is directed by James Mangold and will also feature actors Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann and Toby Jones. The movie is set to drop on 30 June 2023.

Star Wars fans can also look forward to The Acolyte, created and produced by Leslye Headland, in Spring 2023. The series is a mystery-thriller taking viewers into a galaxy of secrets and forces from the dark side in the final days of the High Republic Era. Squid Game protagonist Lee Jung Jae will be starring in the series, alongside other stars like Amandla Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Danfe Keen and Jodie Turner-Smith.

Did you know that Director Peter Sohm’s immigrant parents were the inspiration behind this film? Set to be released on 16 June 2023, Elemental introduces a young fiery woman named Ember who meets a go-with-the-flow water guy named Wade. The film follows both characters as they navigate their relationship in Element City, a place where people would think twice before connecting with someone different from them.
