The 15 Best Moments At The 2016 Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards on Sunday evening brought about big wins (The People v. OJ Simpson), snubs (Beyoncé's Lemonade) and loads of memorable moments. From host Jimmy Kimmel's opening skit to the Game of Thrones smashing records, these were the best parts of this year's Emmys.

1) The kids of Stranger Things performed "Uptown Funk."

Before the official program began, stars Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin entertained the crowd as they settled into the theater with a performance of "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars.

2) Jimmy Kimmel's monologue

After an opening sketch that showed the host hitchhiking to the Emmys with a variety of nominees, Kimmel began the evening with a witty monologue that didn't go too far. He touched on the diverse pool of nominees, Trump's campaign and the night's predicted winners. ("If your show doesn't have a dragon or a white Bronco in it, go home now.")

3) Kate McKinnon pulled her acceptance speech out of her bra.

Where else would you keep something important if your dress doesn't have pockets? When McKinnon won the award for best supporting actress in a comedy for Saturday Night Live, she approached the stage in shock, but not before pulling a small slip of paper out of her cleavage.

4) Asian Americans get a shoutout for more representation.

When Alan Yang and Aziz Ansari took the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, they put the spotlight on Asian American immigrant families, which inspired the plot of their winning episode of Master of None, "Parents."

"There's 17 million Asian Americans in this country and there's 17 million Italian Americans. They have The Godfather, Goodfellas, Rocky, The Sopranos—we got Long Duk Dong. So, we got a long way to go, but I know we can get there. I believe in us; it's just gonna take a lot of hard work," Yang said. Though the speech was inspiring, it barely left Aziz with any time to speak.

5) Julia Louis-Dreyfus dedicates her award to her dad.

JLD accepted her fifth consecutive Emmy Award for her portrayal of Selina Meyer onVeep and dedicated her win to her late father, who died on Friday. "I'm so glad that he liked Veep, because his opinion was the one that really mattered," she said through tears.

6) Jeffrey Tambor pleads for Hollywood to give trans talent a chance.

Upon winning his much-deserved Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy, Tambor gave a nod to the trans community that inspired his character's storyline in Transparent. "Please give transgender talent a chance. Give them auditions. Give them their story," he said. "I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television."

Laverne Cox later echoed his thoughts before presenting an award: "I would not be here today if somebody didn't give me a chance," she said.

7) Jill Soloway urges us to "Topple the Patriarchy!"

The Transparent director used her acceptance speech to bring some important issues to light. She thanked trans and queer people for inspiring her with their "lived lives" and ended with "Topple the patriarchy!" as she held her award in the air and jumped up and down.

8) Leslie Jones asked Ernst & Young to protect her Twitter account.

After being viciously trolled and receiving hurtful messages over the summer, theSaturday Night Live comedian joked about her Twitter account with the accountants of Ernst & Young. "Don't nobody want to know about boring Emmy secrets," she told them. "But since you're good at keeping things safe, I've got a job for you: my Twitter account. Put that in the vault, please."

9) Jimmy Kimmel and the Stranger Things cast hand out PB&J sandwiches.

Much like the Girl Scout cookie moment at the Oscars this year, Kimmel treated the attendees to a mid-show snack with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made by his mom. The kids from Stranger Things helped out by doling out the sandwiches in costume on their bikes.

10) Winners shouted out the women "rockin' their chains."

When Sterling K. Brown of The People v. O.J. Simpson accepted his award for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, he ultimately thanked his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, with an allusion to Jay Z's "Public Service Announcement": "Contrary to popular belief, I got the hottest chick in the game rockin' my chain," he announced at the end of his speech, not realizing he had started a trend.

Soon after, Brown's costar Courtney B. Vance gave a shoutout to his wife Angela Bassett as "the woman that rocks my chain." Then Best TV Movie winner Steven Moffatt called out his wife, "Not only does she rock...whatever that was, but she actually produces the show." John Oliver also jumped on the bandwagon, simply calling his wife "the hottest chain" in what he referred to as an "impeccably white moment."

11) Kit Harington proposes to Andy Samberg.

Hoping to create soundbites and clips for next year's Emmy commercials, Harington and Samberg (who starred in 2015 HBO mockumentary 7 Days in Hell) launched into a series of one-liners they hoped would make the cut. They ended on a cheesy but hilarious faux proposal.

12) Matt Damon adds fuel to his feud with Jimmy Kimmel.

After Kimmel lost to John Oliver for Variety Talk Series, his nemesis Matt Damon showed up just in time to rub salt in the wound. Nonchalantly snacking on an apple, the actor teased Kimmel about having to continue to host the show in front of the audience even after his big loss.

13) All things Sarah Paulson

The six-time nominee finally took home her first Emmy last night for her work in The People v. O.J. Simpson, but that wasn't her only win of the evening. First, she brought the real-life Marcia Clark, whom she portrayed in the series, as her date. Even Kimmel commended her for winning the "plus one award." But that didn't stop her and girlfriend Holland Taylor's adorable "I love you" exchanges over TV and Twitter. Plus, three words: that Prada dress.

14) Tatiana Maslany surprises with her win

The Orphan Black actress finally won for a Lead Actress in a Drama after getting snubbed for the series' first two seasons and losing to Viola Davis last year. This year, she beat out contenders Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis, Robin Wright, Claire Danes and Keri Russell for the award, but dedicated her win to all women: "I feel so lucky to be on a show that puts women at the center," she said at the end of her speech.

15) Rami Malek channels his Mr. Robot character.

The first-time Emmy nominee and winner was stunned when he claimed the award for Lead Actor in a Drama, topping Kyle Chandler, Bob Odenkirk, Matthew Rhys, Liev Schreiber and Kevin Spacey. He arrived at the stage wide-eyed and speechless and said to the crowd, "Please tell me you are seeing this too," a subtle nod to his paranoid Mr. Robotcharacter Elliot. At the end of his speech, he gave a real tribute to his "profoundly alienated" onscreen persona and those like him in real life: "I want to honor all the Elliots, because there's a little bit of Elliot in all of us, isn't there?"
