Veganism, whether you’re doing it for the animals and Mother Nature, or simply looking for a healthier lifestyle, I applaud you. Defined as a plant-based diet which excludes all meat and animal-derived ingredients, eating out may sometimes be a bit of a headache, and it’s even worse when your friends don’t share the same lifestyle. But never fear, because we've rounded up some of the best vegan spots in Singapore that even your non-vegan friends will love.

1. HRVST Bistro

Right smack in the heart of the CBD, this rooftop bistro café and bar was opened by was the same folks behind boutique gym, Kilter Avenue. HRVST (pronounced ‘Harvest’) features an edible garden, where they grow their own produce and herbs. For your mains, you can opt for their Vegan Carbonara, topped off with cashew cream, mushroom bacon, broccoli and cauliflower, or for if you’re feeling some local, try the Soy Satay, served with classic peanut sauce and veggie chips. The meat is made with soy, and is surprisingly dense and juicy.

2. Loving Hut

While most vegan cafes out there only serve western accented cuisines, Loving Hut serves 100% plant-based renditions of some of your favorite local dishes like Nyonya Laksa Lemak, which is apparently “the best thing over there” and under 500 calories ( a regular bowl of Nyona Lakso stands at 700 cals). With an extensive menu that takes you across Asia to Europe, this restaurant is a must visit.

3. Herbivore

So, you’re vegan and you love Japanese food. We know how tricky it can be when it comes to navigating the Japanese menu given how seafood is an essential component of the cuisine. Herbivore, as its name suggests, is a vegetarian Japanese-Western restaurant with an extensive menu to boot. Go for their highly recommended Chicken Don Set, that features grilled mock chicken seared to perfection or their Unagi.

4. Pete’s Place

Most Italian cuisine aficionados will be well acquainted with Pete’s Place, one of Singapore’s oldest and most authentic Italian Trattorias. The rustic restaurant has launched a vegan lunch buffet as part of their efforts to be more sustainable, even sourcing their organic greens from local farmers and produce from the hotel’s rooftop gardens. Only available from Mondays to Saturdays, 12pm to 2.30pm, indulge in their delectable selection of hearty plant-based Italian fare.

5. Brownice

No vegan restaurant list would be complete without the mention of Brownice, Singapore’s first vegan icecream. While vegan may not always mean healthy, this Italian bistro is actually healthy: the usual ingredients of milk, cream and egg are replaced with organic brown rice. It’s the ultimate guilt-free dessert to end your night on a sweet note.
