In 1950 famous French photographer Gisèle Freund embarked on a two-week trip to Mexico… and left two years later. On her travels she met legendary Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera. The duo welcomed Freund into their home and she was given the type of access that photographers could only dream of. The shots, which were taken just two years before Kahlo’s death, have now been collated into the book Frida Kahlo: The Gisèle Freund Photographs ($33, Abrams), which hits shelves this month.
