Celebrities may be dripping in designer clothing, high profile brand collaborations and posh houses now, but it's easy to forget that this wasn't always the case. Not many of our glittering lot came out their mother's womb followed by a trail of stardust; they had to work to get where they are now.

Which meant getting a job. And by the looks of some of these, that meant any job. Here's some of the weirdest jobs celebs had before they were famous (don't quit your day jobs, loves).

I can totally imagine Joe in a hard hat, can't you? And there's a reason for that: he used to wear one for a living. Yup, before his acting days Sofia Vergara's husband used to shovel sand and gravel off of a truck and do demolitions for a construction company. No wonder he's got such a wonderfully sculpted bod after all that heavy lifting.

This is mad. Whoopi Goldberg, as in THE Whoopi Goldberg, used to doll up dead people after embalming and before burial. She used to do the make-up for them. She's a brave woman.

Well would you look at that: brains AND beauty. Gerard Butler actually went to law school to train as a solicitor because he wanted to make his family proud, which is cute. Speaking to Esquire, he said: "I came from a family just above working class, just below middle class, a great family of wonderful values. The idea of me having a chance for a law degree was enticing. Enticing to me but also very enticing to my family." Having an acting career is also pretty enticing too, though.

There are some things you just wish you had a photograph of, and this is one of them. Brad Pitt used to earn a living by dressing up as a chicken, handing out flyers, and dancing as a means of enticing customers into El Pollo Loco, a chicken restaurant chain in the Los Angeles. No words.

Long before the days of fending off Tyrannosaurus Rex's with his good looks and smooth charm Chris Pratt was actually homeless and selling coupons for a living. He's also admitted to smoking weed every day while he lived in a van. Talking about coming full circle.

Despite it goes against everything her character in Mean Girls believes in, Rachel McAdams used to work at the Golden Arches, and probably ate Big Macs about five times a week. She wasn't a great employee, though, she said she had such an obsession with washing her hands that she said the drive-thru line used to back right up. Well, you can't argue with hygiene.

Patrick Dempsey needn't have worried about whether or not he'd get cast in Grey's Anatomy, because he had another path he could take. The actor is actually an insane juggler. He even competed in juggling competitions, and came second in one competition behind the man who's considered the best technical juggler of all time. NBD.

This one makes sense, because I always had a feeling Matt Le Blanc would be good with his hands. The actor's grandfather was a carpenter, and until he discovered the world of TV commercials (and later, hugely successful sitcoms), our Joey had planned to go into woodwork himself.

It's hard to believe there was ever a day where people didn't fall at Madonna's feet, but once upon she was just like the rest of us, and had to get a job in a fast food joint to pay the rent. It didn't last long, though. She got fired for squirting donut jam at a customer. Classic Madge!

Well this is a sad story actually, because Ange had planned to be a funeral director but never quite achieved those dreams after she got distracted with the acting thing. The funeral director life goals came after the actress was upset about how her grandfather's funeral was conducted and decided she could do a better job. Now we'll never know how she'd approach things.

Can you imagine Kanye West being employed by anyone except himself? I bloody well can't. But apparently back in the days of yore, the rapper worked in clothing shop GAP, presumbaly folding tees and telling people to fuck off because he's the greatest rockstar on the planet when all they asked was whether they could have a refund on their faulty jeans. It's unconfirmed whether or not Kanye's GAP days were inspiration for the leather jogging pant he'd later dedicate his life to designing.

Okay, we probably all knew this one. He didn't get those Magic Mike moves from nowhere, did he? After dropping out of uni, Channing earned a living by stripping and gyrating on stage. Bet he was minted, I'd give him a dollar.
