Princess Kate has paid subtle tribute to Queen Elizabeth as she attended several events this past week.

The Princess of Wales has worn a pair of the late monarch's earrings on several occasions, pairing the jewelry with her traditionally-black mourning looks. The elegant pearl-and-diamond earrings were worn by the queen during her Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977, and she first loaned them to Kate for her first solo foreign royal trip, a visit to the Netherlands in October 2016.

Kate wore the pearls yesterday while meeting with troops from the Commonwealth who are set to take part in the Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday. For her and Prince William's visit to the Army Training Centre Pirbright, the princess wore an all-black mourning outfit comprised of a coat dress with silver buttons, a circular hat, sheer stockings, and black pumps.

She also wore the jewelry for the couple's Thursday visit to Sandringham, where they admired flower arrangements which were left by mourners outside the palace's Norwich Gates. The princess accessorized a chic black midi dress and matching structured blazer with the earrings, a silver-and-diamond cross necklace, and her sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring, which once belonged to Princess Diana.

For a Wednesday service at Westminster Hall, Kate paid tribute to both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana through her jewelry choices. Her all-black ensemble included an ebony coat dress, a matching hat with a netted veil, stockings, pointed-toe heels, and two meaningful pieces: diamond-and-pearl drop earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana, and a stunning diamond-and-pearl brooch in the shape of three leaves that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth.

Before gifting the brooch to Kate, the late monarch wore the brooch on her 73rd birthday in 1999 during a visit to Seoul, South Korea. The princess had worn the brooch only once before, during a visit to Belgium in 2017.

Following the queen's death last Thursday, Kate inherited Princess Diana's former title, Princess of Wales, while Prince William is now the Prince of Wales. A royal source told BAZAAR.com at the time that the couple intend "on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time" and "will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they’ve approached their work previously."

And while Princess Kate "appreciates the history associated with this role," she also wants "to look to the future as she creates her own path."
