Local Personalities On What To Watch And Look Forward To On Disney+ In 2022

With all the various streaming platforms and wide array of content now available, figuring out what to watch on our nights in can be a daunting task. Thankfully, local personalities Joseph Schooling, Nathan Hartono, Iman Fandi and Tabitha Nauser have got us covered. They have curated a list of their 10 favourite current and upcoming television series on Disney+ in 2022—including How I Met Your Father starring Disney almuna Hilary Duff.

1. Turning Red

Recommended by: Iman Fandi

Turning Red is Disney and Pixar’s brand new original film featuring Meilin Lee—a confident, slightly dorky 13 year-old. She’s described as having a great group of friends, a stellar record in school and prototypical relationship with her family. The series shows Lee trying to balance school and extracurricular activities, while also figuring out how to fulfil her familial duties.

Turning Red launches on 11 March.

2. How I Met Your Father

Recommended by: Joseph Schooling, Iman Fandi and Tabitha Nauser

We all know and love How I Met Your Mother starring Neil Patrick Harris. In the spin-off How I Met Your Father (starring Disney alumna Hilary Duff as Sophie), you’ll get to relive your favourite series from a female perspective. Similar to the original series, it starts with Sophie recounting to her son how she met his father. The show takes place in 2022 where Sophie and her group of friends are still in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life and how to find love in the age of dating apps and seemingly limitless options.

How I Met Your Father launches on 23 March.

3. Moon Knight

The series follows its protagonist Steven Grant, described as a mild-mannered gift shop employee who suddenly becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life—or so he thinks. Turns out, Grant has a dissociative identity disorder and shares his body with mercenary Marc Spector. In Moon Knight, we get to see how both characters navigate their complex identities while being entangled in a deadly mystery.

Moon Knight launches on 30 March.

4. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Star Wars fans rejoice! Obi-Wan, touted as one of the greatest Jedi ever, is back on a new mission. This series takes place 10 years after Obi-Wan’s (played by  Ewan McGregor) greatest defeat—the corruption and downfall of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen) becoming the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. Watch to find out how Obi-Wan works his way out of yet another tragedy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi launches on 25 May.

5. Limitless With Chris Hemsworth

What’s better than an entire series featuring Chris Hemsworth? An entire series of Chris Hemsworth without his shirt on. Well, almost. Jokes aside, this series shows how Hemsworth transforms himself through six challenges in pursuit of living a healthier, smarter and longer life. Confronted with his own mortality, Hemsworth discovers just how far he’s able to stretch his physical and mental abilities.

6. She-Hulk

If you’re like us and can’t get enough of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, She-Hulk is for you. The series follows Tatiana Maslany—who some of you might recognise from Orphan Black—as Jennifer Walter, a lawyer specialising in superhuman-related legal cases who can also transform into a large, powerful, green-tinted version of herself like her cousin, Bruce Banner (played by Mark Ruffalo). The series also stars Tim Roth as Abomination, a Russian-born former officer in the United Kingdom’s Royal Marines Commandos who had infused an altered version of the super soldier serum and gamma radiation to transform into a humanoid monster, similar to Hulk.

7. Grid

In this Korean sci-fi mystery drama, viewers enter into the elusive world of Grid, where a mysterious being known as “the Ghost” creates the shield that saves humankind from an imminent solar wind crisis before disappearing without a clue.

8. Rookie Cops

In this coming-of-age drama, a group of recruits go through trials and tribulations while learning about the importance of friendships along the way. They also discover romance. Starring Kang Daniel and Chae Soo-bin, Rookie Cops explores the beginnings of an ill-fated sweet love story while its protagonists train to serve and protect their community as members of the police force.

9. Watch 24

Watch 24 follows a military hero’s return to the United States of America, and the trouble that follows him back. This eventually compels him to ask the CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what could potentially be one of the largest scale terror terror attacks on American soil. This series tells the story in real time with split screens, and each episode represents an hour of a day.

10. Star. vs the Forces of Evil

After several encounters with other-worldly monsters, fun-loving magical teen princess Star Butterfly is sent by her royal parents to earth. Here, she befriends her human roommate Marco Diaz, and embarks on what’s supposed to be a normal highschool life. In this series, the duo go on to make new friends, tackle enemies and explore different dimensions all while trying to survive high school.
