Attention All Artisans: Entries Are Now Open For The Loewe Craft Prize 2018

From participating in Milan's Salone del Mobile fair with furniture, textile and ceramics exhibits to commissioning a Spanish artisan to produce limited edition leather bowls, Jonathan Anderson has been championing craft at the house of Loewe since he joined as Creative Director — most notably, by initiating the annual Loewe Craft Prize in 2016.

‘‘Craft is the essence of Loewe and our main inspiration. The Loewe Craft Prize is a platform to celebrate the work of exceptionally talented people who use hands, minds and tradition to make singular objects that follow an original formula and speak their maker’s own language.’’

The first edition saw close to 4,000 submissions across a variety of techniques, media and styles from over 75 countries. Germany's Ernst Gamperl took the top spot with Tree of Life 2, which is currently part of a travelling exhibition along with works from the other finalists. Having toured Madrid and New York, it will arrive in Tokyo in November.

Submissions for the Loewe Craft Prize 2018 are being accepted from now to 17 October 2017. The winner receives 50,000 Euros in cash. Competition is open to any professional artisan over the age of 18. To be considered, submitted work must have been created within the last five years and combine an innovative application of its craft with an original artistic concept.The winner of the Loewe Craft Prize 2018 will be announced in London in May 2018.
